Schulenburg Vietnam Veterans Wall Viewing

The Schulenburg Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 870 is hosting an 80 percent replica of the Vietnam Wall, which is in Washington, D.C. It contains more than 58,000 names of the brothers and sisters who lost their lives during the Vietnam War.

The American Veterans Traveling Tribute is 360 feet long and will be displayed at the Schulenburg Sports Complex on Schultz Street in Schulenburg.

Construction of the wall will begin at 7:30 a.m. April 4. Local residents who are at least 18 yers old and who want to participate in the construction of the wall are encouraged to come to the Sports Complex then and 3 p.m. April 7, when the wall will be taken down.

The wall will be open 24 hours a day. It will be free to attend.

Souvenir T-shirts for the wall will be on sale 10 a.m.-5 p.m. March 30 at Arland’s Market. The shirts will also be available 10 a.m.-5 p.m. March 23 and March 30 at the Kountry Bakery in Schulenburg. The shirts are $20. Sizes available will be children’s small, medium and large and adult’s medium, large, extra-large and 3X.

A Chapel of Four Chaplains awards ceremony (fourchaplains.org) recognizing outstanding Texans will be at 1 p.m. April 6 at the covered bleachers in the Sports Complex. The community is invited to attend. A flyover has been requested for 1 p.m. prior to the Chapel ceremony. Approval for the flyover is pending from the Pentagon.
