The Clermont County Public Library will be presenting part two of its’ three-part Vietnam War lecture series on Monday, July 17 at the Batavia Branch Library at 6:00 p.m. The lecture, Saying Goodbye to Vietnam, will feature local author and Vietnam veteran Ken Williamson.
Ken will share his experiences as a U.S. Army photographer and journalist in Vietnam in 1969 and talk about his book, Saying Goodbye to Vietnam, a photographic memoir documenting his service and his two return trips to Vietnam in 1998 and 2005.
Ken will present an engaging story of how he documented Army Engineer activities for three military publications and dealt with thoughts of his pregnant wife living halfway around the world without him. Hear and see what life was like as a photographer in a combat zone and learn what Ken discovered about Vietnam during his two return trips. Experience Vietnam at war and at peace through Ken’s words and photographs. He will read excerpts from his book, including poetry he wrote during his 1998 trip to help with his healing process, and share the experience of meeting a former Viet Cong soldier who was left in a field to die.
Ken is a native of Cincinnati, a graduate of Norwood High School and Ohio University, where he studied photography.
The Clermont County Public Library Batavia Branch is located at 1800 S. Third Street in Batavia. Reservations are suggested. Call 513-732-2128.
