Memorial Wall Reedsville

08/07/2019 12:00 AM - 08/11/2019 11:59 PM

The largest American Veterans Traveling Tribute Vietnam Memorial Wall will make its way to Reedsville Aug. 7, during the Mifflin County Youth Fair.

At 360 feet long and 8-feet high at its apex, the wall is the largest of four replicas and is 80 percent of the original size of the original Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall in Washington D.C., said George Baughman, president of the Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 791, which has arranged to have the wall come to Mifflin County.

The wall will be set up at the Reedsville Playground on Honey Creek Road and will be available 24/7 for viewing until Aug. 11.

A parade that will escort the wall will run from the Red Zone restaurant in Mifflintown, through Lewistown, to Reedsville. The parade will begin at 5 p.m. Aug. 7 and is expected to arrive in Reedsville at 6 p.m.

The wall will be set up Thursday morning and will be ready for viewing around noon. It will be torn down after a Sunday church service that will be held.

Of the 58,472 names featured on the wall, 17 are from Mifflin County and five are from Juniata County, Baughman said.

A wreath-laying ceremony will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. for each of the 22 soldiers from Mifflin and Juniata counties. Veterans and their wives will also be honored with gifts Thursday.
