32nd Annual POW-MIA Vigil

09/20/2019 5:15 PM - 09/21/2019 10:00 PM

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 278 will hold their 32nd annual POW-MIA Vigil on Sept. 20-21 at the Korea-Vietnam Memorial in downtown Texarkana.

The vigil will start shortly after 5:15 p.m. Sept. 20 as part of a designated national recognition day focusing on a need to account for all American service men and women still listed either as prisoners of war or missing in action for the last seven wars the U.S. has been involved in.

The first day will start with opening ceremonies. It will conclude with a candlelight ceremony starting at 8 that evening.

The vigil’s second and final day will include the event’s 25th annual Ride to Remember procession, where all participants will be able to drive their cars, SUVs, pickups, motorcycles, big rigs and other street-legal vehicles from the Arkansas Welcome Center starting at 2:40 p.m. from the center’s U.S. Highway 71 and Red River area intersection.

Once the procession arrives at the memorial, there will be a balloon release at about 3 p.m., followed by a POW-MIA memorial and recognition service at 3:10 p.m. A closing candlelight service will take place at 8 p.m.
